Looking Down Filbert Street from Telegraph Hill in San Francisco

by Jason Vines

Let’s return to California following last week’s post with a sojourn to one of my favorite cities, San Francisco! Today’s featured photo showcases just why that is so: the steep hills that afford gorgeous views of its distinctive architecture that melds Victorian and modern sensibilities.

Like Rome, San Francisco was legendarily founded on seven hills (out of 44 currently), including Telegraph Hill. While hiking up the hill along one of its streets, Filbert Street, I was struck by how far Filbert stretched in the opposite direction, and by the symmetry of the buildings and trees hugging each side.

I’m sure, of course, all the hills of San Francisco make driving through it an adventure, and not the fun kind. But since I was just hiking through the city all day when I shot today’s photo, my adventure was fun!
