A dark fall day at the Trapp Family Lodge

The Trapp family, of The Sound of Music fame, fled Austria after the Nazi takeover and settled in the mountains of Vermont. Later, amid the picturesque surroundings, they began operating their home as a resort and ski lodge.

I briefly visited the lodge to see what it was like during my leaf peeping tour of fall 2013. I did feel as if I'd entered a portal that transported me to the beautiful Austrian Alps.

What surprised me, though, was the ranch with grazing bulls. With the fall colors, mountains, and clouds in the background, I thought it made for an interesting composition.
